[Response to prior poem by T. K]
T. K. were he to change his life,
Describes the girl, he'd take to wife;
But, he and I, cannot agree;
Externals ne'er will fetter me.
Let solid sense inform her mind,
With strength of judgement sweetly join'd;
Let her humane, and gen'rous be,
If, heav'n designs a girl for me:
For, Music, Wit, and Shape quite neat,
My happiness cannot compeat:
Nor Prudence, with Oeconomy join'd;
Without solidity of mind.
